MechWarrior
Play as Mercenaries Pilot who fight in the Inner Sphere for 5 major houses: Davion, Kurita, Liao, Marik, and Steiner. Each house will treat mercenaries differently and some may not honor the terms of their contract. House Kurita is known for their unfavorable contract terms while House Liao may offer excellent conditions only to cancel payment upon completion. House Steiner seems to offer the most favorable contracts and will always honor the terms of the agreement.
MechWarrior is the first in line BattleTech video game of the same name and also the first video game to offer the player a chance to actually pilot a BattleMech from the view of a pilot (a MechWarrior). With this game the player has a great deal of freedom versus many of the follow-up MechWarrior games, which include choosing missions, buying 'Mechs and parts, hiring lance-mates, and traveling throughout the Inner Sphere. The game had a story line that would unfold over a five year (game time) period that dealt directly with your Character.

The Mission, codenamed Damocles, is to attack key Smoke Jaguar installations on the planet Tranquil, including a 'Mech Factory, a starport and a geothermal power plant, and to eliminate Smoke Jaguar forces and leadership on planet. However, while in orbit above Tranquil, a dropship is attacked by massive naval laser fire. The Blackhammer is shot down and the remaining dropship, The Eclipse, retreats to safety. The player as “lance leader” had already been deployed from the Blackhammer slightly off target before it was shot down. The Mobile Field Bases (MFB) that had been deployed with it land on target, and you meets up with them quickly.
Apparently the original plan is no longer viable: less than half of the 'Mechs are deployed. Despite this setback, you must continue with this objectives, and hope to link up with those forces that survived, and eventually, secure a landing zone so the dropship can return to evacuate them.

MechWarrior 4 VengeanceOn the Inner Sphere planet Kentares IV and its moon. Players takes control of Ian Dresari, son of famed Clan War hero Duke Eric Dresari and heir to the throne of Kentares.
A civil war erupts on the planet after William Dresari, a cousin of
Ian, betrays the family and seizes the throne for himself under the
banner of Katherine "Katrina" Steiner, ruler of the Lyran Alliance and
responsible for annihilation of loyalists to Victor Steiner-Davion,
brother of Katrina. After a surprise attack by Steiner forces on the
Dresari royal palace, leaving Eric Dresari, and the majority of the
royal family dead, Ian meets up with his uncle, Sir Peter Dresari on
the moon orbiting Kentares' to launch a guerrilla campaign to take back
Kentares IV from Steiner. Ian fights alongside with fellow Resistance
MechWarriors, Casey Nolan, Jen McQuarrie, and Jules Gonzales, and their
commander Elise Rathburn.

Kentares IV has been in political turmoil since Ian Dresari took possession of the Ducal throne. Details of his succession are sketchy, but many feel that his sister Johanna was the heir apparent. Since her untimely death, civil unrest has grown into open rebellion. Karl Sonntag, a staunch loyalist to the Dresari family, turned his back on the fledgling sovereign and was recently arrested for sedition when he publicly condemned the new regime. His fate - as well as those of other political prisoners - is uncertain, but we do know that his leadership could prove invaluable if a resistance is to be mounted against Ian Dresari.
After years of faithful service as a Davion lance commander, you found yourself facing a disciplinary review board following a heated dispute with a superior officer. Using his influence with the corporative magistrate, he seized an opportunity to trump up charges of insubordination against you and had you drummed out. Disgraced, jobless, and without a C-bill to your name, you turned to the only source of income at hand: Colonel Michael Lawhorn and his Black Knight Legion. The Legion is a tight-knit group of rogue mercenaries with a reputation for the ruthless pursuit of profit - a reputation that's not altogether undeserved. Your experience and can-do attitude has helped you rise quickly through the ranks, becoming the colonel's confidant and second in command.
